There’s just something magical about watching the world’s largest jet engine come to life. Recently, I had the chance to capture an up-close look at an Air India Boeing 777-300ER as it fired up its GE90-115B engines right at the gate at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Trust me, no matter how many times I’ve seen it, the thrill of a GE90 start-up never gets old.

What Makes the GE90-115B So Special?

The GE90-115B isn’t just any jet engine; it’s a marvel of modern engineering and the most powerful commercial jet engine in the world. Designed exclusively for the Boeing 777, it produces an incredible 115,000 pounds of thrust, enough to power a small town. To put it in perspective, each fan blade on the GE90 is about the size of a grown adult, and when it spins up, you can feel the raw power radiating through the ground.
